Last week news was bouncing back and forth regarding Iron Man 4. Robert Downey, Jr. confirmed on The Ellen Show that it is happening. But during an interview with David Letterman he debunked the rumor of a fourth film in the franchise.

Thankfully, more concrete announcements are being made this week, but not for Iron Man 4. Downey is currently in final negotiations to appear in Captain America 3 and he’s already scheduled for The Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Avengers 3. Captain America 3 will pit Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man in the Marvel Comics’ Civil War storyline in which the government passes the Superhero Registration Act. The Act requires people with special powers to announce them to the U.S. government and help with law enforcement. In the story Iron Man accepts the Act but Captain America considers it to be a threat to their civil liberties.

The dispute will cause those who oppose the Act to go on the run, including Captain America. The moral issue will not only cause an ethical rift in the Marvel movie world, it could essentially make Iron Man a villain in the Captain America movie. A plus for fans, it means that RDJ will have a meaty role in the movie.

Captain America 3 is slated to begin production in the Spring for a release on May 6, 2016. Marvel announced that they will reboot the Civil War comic book miniseries in 2015 to refresh or introduce readers leading up to the new movie.
