Revenge of the Sith, the third film in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, is turning 20 years old. Completing Anakin Skywalker’s transition from young Jedi to the formidable Darth Vader, the movie established the Empire’s strengthening hold over the galaxy. It was originally released on May 19, 2005, and now it is returning to theaters for special anniversary screenings.

It will be in theaters for only one week, from Thursday through Wednesday, April 24-30, 2025, then it will return to theaters on the official anniversary date of May 17. Revenge of the Sith will be shown in several formats, including the interactive 4DX, featuring motion chairs that react to over 20 effects. It will play at AMC, Alamo Drafthouse, B&B, Cinemark, Fandango, Galaxy, Harkins, Marcus, Megaplex, and Regal theater chains. Disney and Lucasfilm announced that tickets are now available via Fandango.

Written and directed by franchise creator George Lucas, the movie sees the Jedi leading the clone army in a battle against the Separatists. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) continues his political maneuvers to gain more power while whispering into the increasingly receptive ear of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). After having a vision that Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) will die in childbirth he makes the ultimate choice, pledging himself to the Emperor and his burgeoning Galactic Empire.

As the Jedi are being exterminated across the galaxy, Master Yoda (Frank Oz) and a few others are forced into hiding. Upon discovering Anakin’s betrayal, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) battles his former Padawan, leaving Anakin for dead, but he is saved by the Emperor and becomes Darth Vader, while Padmé gives birth to Leia and Luke. Revenge of the Sith totaled almost $849 million at the box office worldwide.

The movie also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Christopher Lee, Jimmy Smits, Peter Mayhew, Ahmed Best, and Matthew Wood.
