A copy of Red Raven #1 CGC-certified 4.5 sold on eBay for $4,000. The Golden Age Timely Comic published in 1940 has a minor amount of glue on the cover and cream to off-white pages. Red Raven #1 was written by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby with art by Louis Cazeneuve and Dick Briefer with art and cover by Jack Kirby. It includes the origin and first appearance of Red Raven, and also includes appearances by Mercury, Human Top, Comet Pierce, and Magar.

The character, created by Joe Simon and Louis Cazeneuve, premiered in Red Raven #1 then was not seen again until two decades later as an antagonist in X-Men #44. The Red Raven was the only survivor in a trans-Atlantic airplane crash and was adopted by a civilization of winged people on a floating island. While growing up he learned more about the people and was given a uniform fitted with anti-gravitons so that he could fly. During World War II he used the wings and costume to fight the threat to the bird-like people.
