Record Prices And Silver Age Keys On ComicLink
ComicLink sellers have realized record prices for the high-grade Silver Age Key
books including Incredible Hulk #1 CGC certified 9.0 and Tales
of Suspense #39 CGC certified 9.2 that came close to a record previously
established on ComicLink. The Incredible Hulk #1 sold for $50,000 and the
Tales of Suspense #39 sold for $19,800. The Tales of Suspense #39
is the first white page copy of this issue in 9.2 that has sold on ComicLink.
Considering the scarcity of a white page 9.2 certified copy of Tales of
Suspense #39, the buyer seems to have gotten a relatively good deal. A
ComicLink seller realized a record $20,000 price for a CGC certified 9.2 in June
2004 with off-white pages.
investment over time. In late 2002, a copy of Incredible Hulk #1 CGC
certified 9.2 sold for approximately $52,000. Now a CGC certified 9.0 has sold
very close to that level. Within the last six months, ComicLink sold a CGC 9.2
Hulk #1 for a record price realized of $82,500 showing nice appreciation
over time,” commented ComicLink CEO Josh Nathanson.
CGC certified 8.5, and a 7.0, and the highest graded Incredible Hulk
listings between issues #2 and #6. All five books attained the grade of 9.4 and
are either the highest or second highest graded copies according to the CGC
census. These books in high-grade are particularly scarce with Incredible
Hulk being one of the earliest Marvel superhero titles published. It
pre-dates Amazing Fantasy by a few months and Incredible Hulk #6
came out the same month as Amazing Spider-Man #1.
“Collectors
probably did not have a reason to think they would be collector’s items, and did
not keep them in good condition. Consequently these are some of the hardest
Silver Age Marvel “keys” to get in ultra high-grade,” remarked Josh Nathanson.
