Rare Boba Fett & International Items in Hake’s Star Wars Lots
For Auction #234, Hake’s Auctions has filled the premier event with a multitude of Star Wars collectibles. Some of the rare pieces within the top listings are Boba Fett items and international material.
Scoop recently covered the Boba Fett rocket-firing prototype (J-slot, Version 2) AFA 50 VG, which is on the top of most Star Wars collecting lists. That key piece is joined by several other lots featuring the popular bounty hunter, including the Boba Fett 21-back-B AFA 85 action figure. This 3-3/4” figure, made for Kenner’s 1979 toy line, is on a punched card.
Moving into advertising material, Hake’s is selling the Star Wars “Get a Free Boba Fett Action Figure!” 1979 bell hanger advertising store display sign AFA 80+. The 18” x 20-1/4” double-sided cardboard hanging sign showcases the first 12 action figures, along with the eight new figures that were set to be released. This version of the sign has a central image of the “actual size” Boba Fett figure.
Among the other rarities in this auction is The Empire Strikes Back – Three Pack Sears exclusive AFA 75. This Canadian Kenner set was made in ’81 and includes a Stormtrooper (Hoth Battle Gear/Snowtrooper), AT-AT Driver, and Cloud Car Pilot. It is one of two combinations that were sold by Sears and the first of either that Hake’s has offered.
Another interesting piece from outside of the US is the Popy Empire Strikes Back Japanese salesman’s boxed action figure set. Popy was the only company in Japan to release Empire Strikes Back figures with 15 different figures. The extremely rare salesman’s sample for the Japanese market is 2” x 15-1/4” x 4-1/4” overall with 15 action figures at 3-3/4” tall in their own individually illustrated cardboard boxes. Each box has an image of the figure within and bears its own number. According to Hake’s only a handful of Popy sets of this type have been found to date.
These Star Wars items are part of Hake’s 1,986-lot auction of pop culture and historical memorabilia. Bidding is open now through March 15-16, 2022, at hakes.com.
