A fine condition copy of the rare 1849 comic book Journey To The Gold Diggins By Jeremiah Saddlebags realized $7,793 after obtaining 23 bids. This comic was published by U.P. James of Cincinnati, Ohio and is the earliest known sequential comic book by an American creator. This book was directly inspired by Rodolphe Topffer’s Obadiah Oldbuck and Bachelor Butterfly comic books. The book exists with two editions published in 1849 with the other edition published by Stringer & Townsend of New York.
