The auction was so big it took four days to close the bidding. Over 2,500
lots were involved. Random Treasures had their hands full, but for both
collectors and bidders, the results were definitely worth it. Among the
characters featured in the auction were Superman, Jiggs and Maggie, Popeye,
Mickey Mouse, Captain Marvel, Donald Duck and many others.

The enormity
of Roger Steckler’s collection has been whispered about in collectors’ circles
for years. When Random Treasures announced they had secured the auction rights,
a lot of people were amazed. They were even more amazed to see what the
collection contained. The selection of pinbacks, postcards, advertising, black
memorabilia, photographs, character items (including a wide selection of
ashtrays), Coca Cola ephemera and more was staggering.

The auction
closed on March 16, 2006. Complete results can be found at http://www.randomtreasuresauctions.com/index.cfm?Action=DisplayContent&ContentName=Home%20Page.
After all is said and done, many feel that Steckler’s collection far exceeded
everyone’s expectations, both in scope and sales. All prices listed include a
buyer’s premium.

This week, Scoop would like to take a look
inside the auction and find some of the lots that may not have gathered all the
attention, but are just as fascinating as the biggest sales. Basically, this
week we are featuring stuff we really liked!
