Presidential Film Poster Exhibit at Posteritati
For the past year, and over the next few months, politics is center stage in the United States. Debates are taking place, vice presidential hopefuls are being announced, and issues are being tackled. Along with news about the election and every step the candidates are taking, media coverage is branching out to other venues. Posteritati, the movie poster gallery, is getting ready to host an exhibit on politics in movie posters.
Original movie posters covering 40 years of American politics as they have been portrayed on film will be featured at Posteritati in “The American Candidate” from September 22 through Election Day, November 4, 2008. Politics has always set a complex stage for interesting films, and this exhibit includes many facets from the fact to the fictitious. Subjects covered range from assassination plots, the Cold War, espionage, Watergate, and more, in action, dramatic, and comedic films. The exhibit will include The Manchurian Candidate (1962), The Candidate (1972), The Conversation (1974), The Parallax View (1974), All the President’s Men (1976), Secret Honor (1984), JFK (1991), The War Room (1993), Nixon (1995), Wag the Dog (1997), Bulworth (1998), and Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004).
Posteritati’s gallery includes a collection of more than 10,000 original movie posters from almost 40 countries. It is one the world’s best dealers of vintage and contemporary movie art with posters from the silent era to modern works. The Village Voice named it the best place for a reminder that film art isn’t just found onscreen.
The Posteritati gallery is located in New York, New York at 239 Centre Street between Broome and Grand Streets, across from the historic Police Building. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Sunday from noon to 6:00 PM, and by appointment on Monday.
