Portland’s Premiere Comic Book Convention
With low temperatures and summer nowhere insight, this weekend New Englanders can stay indoors and enjoy a great comic book convention. This Sunday, March 2, 2008 is Portland, Maine’s 23rd Premiere Comic Book Event. From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM join Primate Promotions’ Spring comic book event held at Verrillo’s Convention Center of Portland.
With comic books making the leap from page to screen in films like the upcoming Iron Man and The Dark Knight, and works of fiction evolving into comics and graphic novel form, like Stephen King’s Gunslinger and Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake, more and more people are rediscovering comic books. “With noted authors such as Orson Scott Card, George R.R. Martin, Stephen King, and so many more jumping into the fray, it’s no surprise that comic book reading is on an upswing; even becoming an accepted learning tool by teachers across the country,” convention promoter Dave Cummings of Monkeyhouse Entertainment stated.
Vendors from all over New England will be selling comic books where demand and rarity dictate price. “With so many good things happening in comic books these days, we are inviting all attendees to join us at no admission charge,” Cummings added, “Come and spend an hour or the day digging through boxes of fun. You can relive your childhood, start a new collection, or make an investment in a collectable.”
