The first day in the current Hake’s Auction found political lots taking
center stage. The unexpected highlight of the early auction was the $13,869.86
received for a button reading “The John W. Davis For President Club Little
Town, W.V.A.”. The button, which is the only know one of it’s kind,
clearly exceeded pre-auction expectations.

“Our customer’s really
amazed us this time. Of course, they always do” said Alex Winter, the
General Manager of Hake’s Americana. “Every auction creates great
expectations, but this one has turned into something special. This is as strong
a political auction as we have ever had.”

The auction has also
shown that the age of a collectible can mean different things to different
people. This is best illustrated by the sale of a button from the 2004
Presidential Campaign. It pictures our current President George W. Bush dressed
as a cowboy. The slogan reads Defending Our Freedom. The button brought
$247.63.

The event started closing late on Tuesday, June 27,200. It is
scheduled to end late on June 29. With the auction ending so close to press
time, Scoop was able to isolate some clear early highlights.

You
can follow the complete auction by visiting http://www.hakes.com/default.asp.
Their listings are accompanied by full color images and detailed text. They are
not only a tremendous auction site, but a solid reference tool as well.
