Marvel; $3.99

The situation on Sakaar just keeps getting worse. First, Korven declared himself king and immediately turned into a vicious ruler, then when She-Hulk chose to defend Quade – who was falsely accused of killing Korven’s wife – Korven decided that she would defend him in combat. Korven manipulated Jack of Hearts into being his champion, but She-Hulk was able to save him from the control he was under. Unfortunately, that didn’t help Quade who was still killed by Juno, the woman She-Hulk thought was her ally. Phew.

Now facing Juno in a battle to the death, She-Hulk seems to be running out of options. She’s been thinking like Jen, looking for a diplomatic solution, but maybe it’s time to let She-Hulk… smash.

This series by Stephanie Phillips has focused on both sides of the hero, giving us Jen’s intelligence and capacity for compassion, as well as She-Hulk’s brute strength and power. On the surface, Sakaar appears to be a planet ruled by physical aggression, but the book also gives glimpses into the manipulative nature of powerful citizens. Artist Aaron Kuder and colorist Sonia Oback continue to establish the tone by showcasing the harshness of the landscape and rare emotion of its inhabitants.
