Planet She-Hulk #4
Marvel; $3.99
She-Hulk is really not enjoying her time on Sakaar. First, her cousin Bruce asked her to stay there and keep the peace in his absence, then a bride was killed at a big wedding. In response, her grieving groom Korven decided to name himself king since there was already a power vacuum. It took about five seconds for him to become a psychotic, violent ruler and accuse a blacksmith named Quade of killing his wife (after Quade stood up against him).
When Jennifer tried to speak on Quade’s behalf, Korven decided that she would be the one to defend the man during his trial. But Jen won’t be using her courtroom skills – she’ll be fighting to keep Quade alive. And the person that Korven has chosen to prosecute Quade, i.e. fight She-Hulk: her boyfriend, Jack of Hearts.
She-Hulk’s time on Sakaar has been one nightmare after another, and writer Stephanie Phillips keeps putting her in tougher and tougher positions. This issue is about both sides of Jennifer Walters as she tries to figure out how to fight Jack without killing him, navigate a way to save Quade, and stop Korven from doing even more awful things. She’s wrung out emotionally and ready to smash, but the odds are too high that others will be killed if she does.
The art team of Emilio Laiso and Fabi Marques make her emotions palpable through panels that eloquently express her frustration and her rage. They make Korven look like every bit of the monster that he is, and don’t pull any punches in this issue.
