Bad Idea; $5.99

There’s been a lot of hype around Bad Idea’s Planet Death, but fortunately the series has lived up to thus far, at least in the eyes of many fans. Written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad Robert Venditti (X-O Manowar), the series is rather lavishly illustrated by Tomás Giorello (Winterworld).

The introductory #0 issue, produced on newsprint like comics of old, was offered at $1.99 cover price and sold something like a bazillion copies. Planet Death #1 featured modern slick production values more familiar to today’s readers.

Like the first two issues, Planet Death #2 puts the spotlight on Corporal Scott, apparently the lone survivor of a planetary invasion force that went up against a surprising and overwhelming barrage of alien enemy fire. He’s left to single-handedly fight his way to the failed invasion’s objective, a seemingly impossible task.

While I have to say I seriously object to waiting until May 2026 for the next issue, every chapter of Planet Death so far has been a thoroughly enjoyable amusement park ride. The bombastic, over-the-top story and Giorello’s exquisite art feed off of each other, immersing the reader in the hostile surroundings.

I can’t wait to see where this goes next.
