Oni; $4.99

Plague House started out as a story about three ghosthunters investigating a house where the father had killed his entire family. But this isn’t a four or five-issue story set inside that house. It’s becoming much more complex.

The ghosthunters – Del (the believer), Holland (the skeptic), and Jacob (the religious figure) – have gone their separate ways, though each is still in the field. Del gained notoriety after they investigated the McCabe house, Holland runs a vlog, and Jacob just wants to help people. In the second issue, Holland and Jacob were concerned that people connected to hauntings they and/or Del had investigated were turning up dead. Then the shocking surprise came: Del is seeing spirits, and has become a hand of vengeneance killing people who murdered those spirits.

This issue by writer Michael W. Conrad and artist Dave Chisholm opens with another surprise (no spoilers!) that changes things for all three ghosthunters. After Jacob encounters something horrorific, Holland also investigates and finds something very sinister. Meanwhile, Del is doing his bloody work for angry spirits and becoming less human in the process.

The creators are making bold, interesting choices in this book and I honestly don’t know what to expect in the next issue – which is pretty exciting.
