Phantom of the Opera One-Sheet Tops $200 K
There have been so many interesting auction results lately in so many different niches, but did you see the The Phantom of the Opera one-sheet that Heritage Auctions sold for $203,150? The 1925 poster, formerly from the Nicolas Cage Collection, led their $2.3 million July 19-20, 2014 Vintage Movie Posters Auction in Dallas.
“It was very gratifying to watch 10 bidders vie for a chance to own The Phantom of the Opera one-sheet,” said Grey Smith, Director of Movie Posters at Heritage. “Collectors know they have to respond when rarities like this come to market and I know it will be heading to a very good home.”
Also of note, a rare insert for Casablanca sold for $83,650 and the six-sheet for Charlie Chaplin’s 1919 film Sunnyside hit $71,700, among many other high points.
