Pedigree Comics’ August Grand Auction is underway. The auction began on the night of Sunday, August 25, 2013 and ends on Wednesday night, September 4, beginning at 8:52 PM EDT with the first lot (Action Comics #365 9.8) and ends at 11:59 PM with the last lot (X-Men #139 9.8).

As with last week, Pedigree offered a tour through some of their high profile offerings in this event.

Cole Schave Early Silver Age Marvel Collection
“This is a fabulous collection of ultra high grade early Silver Age Marvels from the private collection of Cole Schave, a noted collector out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, said Pedigree Comics President and CEO Doug Schmell, who purchased the collection in July for $600,000.

“Known to many dealers across the country, Mr. Schave is a very picky, high grade CGC buyer who does not buy a book solely for the grade on the label. He focuses on superior page quality, registration and eye appeal, and would routinely pass on many books he needed for his collection if they did not meet his strict criteria,” he said.

“Therefore, all the books in his collection have superior page quality (white or off-white to white with only a couple with off-white), structure, centering and presentation, with no date stamps, writings, or the like,” he said.

The collection consists of 68 early Silver Age Marvels plus six later Silver Age – Bronze Age keys. Almost every issue in the collection is a CGC-certified 9.4 or higher, with only a few in 9.2 and three in 9.0. Many of them are 9.6 or 9.8 and represent the highest certified copies.

The highlights of the issues certified to date include Amazing Spider-Man #3 9.2, #5 9.6, #6 9.4, #10 9.6, #12 9.4, #13 9.4, #14 9.6, #16 9.6, #20 9.4 Suscha News, #28 9.4, Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 9.6, Avengers #1 9.2, #2 9.4, #3 9.4, #4 9.4, #5 9.4, #6 9.4, #7 9.4 Twin Cities, #8 9.4, #9 9.4, Fantastic Four #5 9.2, #6 9.4, #12 9.4, Incredible Hulk #2 9.6 White Mountain, Journey Into Mystery #83 9.0, #84 9.4 CGC Signature Series, #85 9.6, #86 9.6, #87 9.4, #88 9.6 Northland, #89 9.6, #90 9.6 Twin Cities, #92 9.4 White Mountain, #96 9.6, #99 9.4 Northland, #103 9.8, Tales of Suspense #39 9.0, #40 9.4 Pacific Coast, #42 9.4, #43 9.4 Twin Cities, #44 9.4 Twin Cities, #46 9.4, #47 9.6, #48 9.4, #49 9.4, #50 9.8 Pacific Coast, #53 9.6, #55 9.4, #58 9.4, and X-Men #1 9.0.

He set aside one of each issue before they were put up for sale on the newsstand. Always being careful to remove an issue from the middle of the stack (for the best condition), these books remained untouched until they were graded by CGC in 2012. All the comic books from this collection are in exceptional condition with perfect or near perfect gloss, pages and covers, just like they were the day of release,” Schmell said.
