Pedigree Adds Key Silver Age Marvel, DC
The White Mountain pedigree copy of Fantastic Four #1 (CGC certified 9.2), a X-Men #1 in 9.2, and X-Men #s 2-4 in 9.4 will join high grade specimens from the Mound City Collection and early Silver Age DC runs from the Pacific Coast Collection in Pedigree Comics upcoming Grand Auction, which begins Monday, January 18, 2010.
Doug Schmell, CEO of Pedigree, told Scoop that his company has just received the comics for the event, which will run for ten days ending Thursday, January 28.
“We are very pleased to be bringing the White Mountain copy of Fantastic Four #1 to market. It is one of only two copies in CGC graded 9.2 and stands as the sixth best existing example of this mega key comic book. It has been locked away in the private holding of a major collector (whose Amazing Fantasy #15 in 9.2 we sold for $190,000 in our February Grand Auction) and has not seen the light of day for years. It is a stunning copy that possesses all of the characteristics that has made the White Mountain Collection so famous; incredible pages, deep cover gloss, near-perfect structure and a newsstand flat and fresh appearance. This is the second best copy ever offered for sale since a 9.4 sold way back in 2002,” he said.
“This same collector has also consigned to us his X-Men #1 in 9.2 plus X-Men #s 2, 3 and 4, all in CGC graded 9.4 and all four books will be featured in the auction,” he said.
“The Mound City books include some ultra high grade early Silver Age Marvels and DC’s from a myriad of titles including Adventure Comics, Detective Comics, Fantastic Four, Flash, Incredible Hulk, Journey Into Mystery, Justice League of America, Strange Tales, World’s Finest Comics and more. Almost every MoundCity book is in 9.4 and higher grade,” he said.
The PacificCoast runs feature early issues of Aquaman (#4 – #20), Atom (5, 7 and 8) and Metal Men (2, 5-12), nearly 30 issues in total, almost every book in 9.4 and 9.6 condition. There are also a few non-Pacific Coast issues within the runs, including Aquaman #3 in 9.8 (single highest certified) and the best existing copy of Metal Men #1, a white-paged 9.6 copy from the Curator Collection. Almost every single book from these runs is the highest certified copy and about half are the single highest!
Pedigree Comics is now accepting consignments for the January Grand auction, which will feature over two hundred high grade CGC-certified comics and magazines.
