Parker Robbins, the Mystical Hood
Parker Robbins, aka the Hood, is a Marvel villain who was originally a common criminal before gaining the powers of mysticism to become a criminal mastermind. He was introduced in his own limited series The Hood #1 (July 2002), created by Brian K. Vaughan, Kyle Hotz, and Eric Powell.
His dad worked with Kingpin and died when Parker was still a child, then his mother ended up in the hospital in a near vegetative state. Now that he was mostly on his own, Parker became a thief and hustler. One night he took a job robbing a warehouse with his cousin, John King, and they found the remnants of a mystical ritual and met a Nisanti demon. A scared Parker shot the demon then stole its hooded cloak and boots. He put on the boots and learned that they gave him the power to levitate and then put on the robe and discovered that he could become invisible when he held his breath.

Following a series of petty crimes, Parker joined John on a job to steal blood diamonds. The crime boss Dennis Golembuski, aka Golem, had hired Shocker, Madame Rapier, Constrictor, and Jack O’Lantern to protect the shipment. Parker easily defeated them and stole the diamonds, then while fleeing the scene, Parker and John were confronted by the police. John was caught by the cops and Parker got away, and the police and media started calling him the Hood.
Parker tried to get John out of jail, and his problems increased when he was pursued by the cops and Golem and his associates. He was attacked by the Shocker, and after the Hood won the fight, he offered to return the diamonds for a fee. Golem agreed to the deal but told Madame Rapier to kill Parker and steal the mystical hood. Parker knew it was a setup, so he brought a replica cloak and gave it to Rapier and set her up to be caught by the FBI in his stead. Sticking to his word, he did return the diamonds to one of Golem’s enforcers with a message that he would retaliate if Golem or his crew came after him.

Since the cops believed that they had captured the Hood, John made a deal to testify against the fake Hood and he got out of jail. Despite that victory, Parker’s problems were far from over. Golem still intended to retaliate despite being warned against it, the Nisanti demon was hunting for him, and the wife of the cop Parker had shot was seeking revenge. Slickly surviving his enemies, the Hood vowed to become a new crime kingpin in New York City.
