Known for: The first appearance of Wonder Woman! Debuting in an eight-page story written by William Moulton Marston (under the penname of Charles Moulton) with artwork by H.G. Peter, the story debuted in the All Star Comics series to test reader interest in the heroine. She proved to be so instantly popular that she was immediately tapped to star in Sensation Comics beginning from the inaugural issue of that series.
Did You Know?: All Star Comics debuted in 1940 and was intended to be an anthology series that contained stories focused on a number of the most popular heroes of the time, including the Golden Age’s Flash, Hawkman, and Sandman. This format was dropped in 1947, and the book shifted to stories of regular heroic team-ups, such as with the Justice Society of America.
