Overstreet #52 in April PREVIEWS Next Week
The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #52, due to go on sale on Wednesday, July 22, 2022, will be featured on Pages 200-208 in the April edition of PREVIEWS from Diamond Comic Distributors, due in comic shops on Wednesday, March 23.
Butch Guice’s Winter Soldier, J.G. Jones’ Black Terror, and Aaron Lopresti’s EC Horror Hosts will be the three covers offered on the standard editions of the Guide. All will be available in hardcover ($44.95) and soft cover ($34.95) versions. The Black Terror, which is our Overstreet Hall of Fame cover this year, and the EC Horror Hosts are exclusive to comic shops in both hardcover and soft cover. The Winter Soldier hardcover is another comic shop exclusive, while the soft cover of that one will also be available in bookstores.
In addition to the new pricing, sales charts, and market reports, feature articles in this edition spotlight the 100th birthdays of Stan Lee and EC founder William M. Gaines, the unique affect on comics history of the Yellow Kid, and the comic book life of James Buchanan Barnes.
Hyperbole aside, Guice and Lopresti join a roster of cover artists that already include Jones, and is virtually unrivaled over its more than five decades. It includes Joe Kubert, George Pérez, Carl Barks, Todd McFarlane, Murphy Anderson, Mark Chiarello, Wally Wood, Darwyn Cooke, Alex Schomburg, Amanda Conner, C.C. Beck, Walter Simonson, Joe Simon, Adam Hughes, Bill Ward, J. Scott Campbell, Jim Steranko, Ryan Sook, Al Williamson, Tony Daniel, Jerry Robinson, Billy Tucci, Russ Heath, John K. Snyder III, Al Feldstein, Terry Moore, L.B. Cole, and Joe Jusko, among others.
To this group we also add Rick Burchett, who returns to Archie’s 1990s Impact-era Black Hood in stunning fashion for the cover of the limited, oversized edition of the Guide, The Big, Big Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide ($54.95). This version, which features only the pricing and related data, is also exclusive to comic shops.
The Bible of serious comic book collectors, dealers, and historians since it was first published in 1970, The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is released each July by Gemstone Publishing. Compiled by founder Robert M. Overstreet with contributions from an extensive roster of Overstreet Advisors, the Guide offers insight into the complex and exciting comic book market.
When it arrives, CBPG #52 will join a strong line-up of books due out this year from Gemstone Publishing. The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide To Lost Universes #1, a brand new price guide/Photo-Journal hybrid now on sale. The Guide will also be preceded by The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comics – Free Comic Book Day 2022 Edition, a special 48-page comic about collecting comics, which will arrive on Saturday, May 7, Free Comic Book Day. Following the Guide, due out October 26, will be the full book-length second edition of The Overstreet Guide To Collecting Comics, a prose/comics hybrid showcasing many different aspects of collecting.
