Noel Barrett Announces New Ward Kimball Train and Toy Auction
Share:
is scheduled to take place on May 27 and 28 in Philadelphia, PA. Because of the
sheer volume of Kimball’s collection of American and European trains, the
inventory had to be divided between two sales. The first auction was held last
November and realized $2.7 Million. The second auction promises to top the
first one.
Noel Barrett spoke to Scoop about his plans for the
second event. “We basically broke every category in half, with only a few
exceptions, we put all the classic-period standard gauge Lionel and American
Flyer trains, and all of the Disney toys in the first sale. Ward’s collections
of Ives trains and railroadiana were held back so they could be offered
exclusively in the up coming May sale.”
The upcoming auction will
also feature more from the same desirable categories that were offered in the
first sale. Those categories include: early two-rail electric trains, early
Lionel, European, American tin and cast-iron floor trains. Additionally, there
will be more European and American windups, comic character and lithographed
paper on wood toys, as well as steam engines and steam toys and
accessories.
Kimball was known as one of Walt Disney’s best animators. He
was one of Disney’s “Nine Old Men.” Among the characters he was
directly responsible for were Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio, Tweedledee and
Tweedledum in Alice in Wonderland, and Lucifer in Cinderella. He
was also a world class musician. He loved trains and ran a
full-size locomotive at his ranch. He spent a lifetime collecting their smaller
versions.
