Nintendo and the Lego Group have partnered for a new brick-building experience called simply Lego Super Mario, following a teaser announcement on March 10, 2020 (also known as “Mario Day”).

Though not a video game, this new set will allow builders to create their own Super Mario-inspired levels, moving Mario through them, and defeating enemies. The key is the new Lego Mario, which features built-in screens and a speaker. The screen highlights the coins picked up, how much time is left on the clock to complete the level, and more, while the speaker provides Mario’s voice clips and classic music from the video games.

“I have always liked Lego products and how they help children use their imagination to play,” Takashi Tezuka, executive officer and game producer at Nintendo, said in a news release. “The new product we created together with the Lego Group seeks to combine two different styles of play – one where you freely build the world of Mario and the other where you play with Mario in the very world that you have created.”

Lego Super Mario is set to release later in 2020, and the reveal trailer can be seen below.
