New Superman Movie Writer Could Be Goyer
Tentatively titled Man of Steel, Variety has reported that the new Superman movie’s scripting duties could be in the hands of David Goyer, who co-wrote Batman Begins and the story for The Dark Knight.
The writer also worked on New Line’s Blade franchise, served as an executive producer on Sony’s Ghost Rider, and wrote a draft of Fox’s long gestating X-Men Origins: Magneto. He also co-created the ABC series FlashForward.
“According to sources close to the companies, Goyer pitched a more action-packed idea that involves Superman battling archnemesis Lex Luthor and super villain Brainiac — far different than the original story that was seen in Superman Returns in 2006. He could wind up helping another scribe develop the final script, as he did with The Dark Knight,” Variety said.
Some reports have indicated that the movie would be based on John Byrne’s Man of Steel mini-series, which rebooted the mini-series in the 1980s. The comics, of course, have spent the last decade moving away from that interpretation, but have not always been closely linked to the films.
