MyComicShop’s October Prime Auction starts on October 3, 2026, featuring over 2,000 comics, pulps, and original art pieces up for bid, and more is being added daily. This week, they are showcasing some of the Golden Age books offered in the auction.

Up first is the solo title debut of Alan Scott in Green Lantern #1 CGC 3.0, which was published a little over a year after his first appearance in All-American Comics #16. After the series’ 38-issue run, Scott would appear sporadically after the establishment of Earth-2 but wouldn’t have his own solo series again until 2023.

While superheroes get most of the attention, the Golden Age was packed full of adventurous art outside of capes and tights – most notably in the sci-fi, horror, and crime genres. Planet Comics #1 CGC 5.0 debuted in late 1939, beginning a 13-year run exploring the wonders and horrors of space.

In the horror genre, few could touch the iconic gruesomeness of Lee Elias and Tomb of Terror #15 CGC 3.0 with its “exploding face cover.” Not to be outdone in lurid exploitation, crime comics of the Golden Age told “true” tales and great covers like Jack Cole’s cover on True Crime Comics #3 CGC 6.0.
