Muppets Noir #3
Dynamite; $4.99
Inside the Muppet Theatre, the Muppets are worried about Kermit the Frog after he got conked on the head by a brick and has been out cold since. What they don’t know is that unconsciousness has transported Kermit to a black and white noir world where he is private detective Flip Minnow.
Flip has been hired by Dolores Crustworth to find her missing daughter, Meringue. What he quite humorously doesn’t realize is that he’s already seen her multiple times in different disguises. He’s getting a little help in this issue through Meringue’s diary that was anonymously sent to his office. Now, Flip is taking a trip around town to check out the places she’s been, and perhaps find the missing girl.
Roger Langridge is nailing it as both writer and artist on Muppets Noir. It perfectly blends the silly humor and unique characters from The Muppets and the hallmarks of a noir mystery. The Muppet characters are well cast in their noir counterparts, whether that’s the well intentioned detective, dim-witted cop, old guys fishing, or the band playing at a secret gathering. The noir elements shine through in the monochromatic backgrounds, story elements that have been adapted for a family-friendly audience, and the cool 1940s era clothing.
It’s a cute, entertaining read for fans of any age.
