Movie Star Autographs in Hake’s Auction
Collecting celebrity autographs can be an arduous task. Some are unlikely to give them out, while others, sadly have already passed away. But, in Hake’s Auction #216, movie fans and autographs collectors will have the chance to purchase some incredible pieces.
The Hollywood movie stars extensive autographs and signed photo collection is the pièce de résistance. The impressive collection contains 143 signatures featuring a who’s who of 1940s to 1950s movie stars. The lot has three classic autograph albums filled with signatures and a large photographs scrapbook, measuring 11” x 14”. The incredible list includes signatures by Bette Davis, Charles Coburn, Perry Como, Dale Evans, Bob Hope, Joan Caulfield, John Huston, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Jack Lemmon, Shelley Winters, Robert Cummings, Vera Allen, and many more.
Lot 1188 is a Laurence Olivier framed and signed display, includes a No Time For Comedy playbill, photo of the actor, and another of his signature in a large frame. A Joan Crawford signed photo, showing her looking pensive, is in lot 1193. The vintage 8” x 10” matte finish was signed in blue ink by the Academy Award winning actress. Fred and Ginger are celebrated with lot 1194 Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers signed photo for the 1949 MGM musical The Barkleys of Broadway that reunited the pair after ten years apart.
A photo signed by Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis is lot 1198. The glossy 8” x 10” depicts a candid photo of the two goofing around on the set of the Stanley Kubrick 1960 film. Lot 1206 is a Natalie Wood signed West Side Story movie still. The glossy photo for the original 1961 musical is signed in blue felt tip pen. The Italian Stallion is featured in lot 1209 Sylvester Stallone signed Rocky III oversized photo print, measuring 11” x 14-3/8” showing Rocky wearing his championship belt. Lot 1210 is a Rain Man photo signed by Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. The photo shows the pair walking along the street in the 1988 Academy Award winning movie.
Other signatures come from Ray Bolger from The Wizard of Oz, Shirley Temple signed Life magazine, James Stewart signed The Stratton Story photo, Ginger Rogers personal handwritten note and letter, and Republic Pictures Corporation Western photo signed by Clayton Moore, Gene Autry, and Roy Rogers.
They also have an Alan Ladd photo, actors signature lot of three signed by Charles Coburn, Glenn Ford, and Alec Guinness, another actors signature lot of three signed by Gregory Peck, Raymond Massey, and Ezio Pinza, an actress signature lot of three signed by Lana Turner, Kim Novak, and Julie Newmar, and another actress signature lot of three signed by Jane Russell, Anne Francis, and Fay Wray.
Other highlights are Clint Eastwood Unforgiven photo, Jackie Gleason signed Smokey and the Bandit movie still, Sean Penn signed photo and script for The Thin Red Line, Keanu Reeves signed photo pair from Point Break and Speed, and signed photo pair of George Clooney on ER and Leonardo DiCaprio in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
