Indiana University is hosting an exhibit of Mike Zeck’s innovative comic art from throughout his 50-year career. The Comic Art of Mike Zeck: The Marvel Years exhibit is being held at IU’s McCalla School.

Zeck has been working in comics since 1974, when he started his career at Charlton Comics. His move to Marvel in 1977 led to an impressive body of work in titles like Captain America, Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars, The Punisher, and Master of Kung-Fu. He is celebrated for his G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero covers, for designing Spider-Man’s famous black and white costume, and for illustrating the “Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline in Spider-Man.

“This exhibition celebrates Zeck’s impressive 50-year career, showcasing original artworks, props, and costumes from the collection of IU alumnus Charles Costas, alongside Zeck-illustrated comic books from IU’s Ray Bradbury Center,” per the events description. “Both comic book aficionados and Marvel movie fans are invited to explore the creative process behind some of Marvel’s most beloved characters and stories.”

Costas is a longtime comic art collector who first met Zeck at a comic convention when he was 14 years old. His collection of Zeck’s art began with an original G.I. Joe cover and a complete set of original art from The Punisher #2 miniseries. Costas used his wealth of knowledge to help establish the exhibit at Indiana University.

The exhibit is open now through February 2026; the hours are 11 AM to 4 PM Tuesday through Thursday. Indiana University’s McCalla School is located at 525 East 9th Street in Bloomington, Indiana.
