Mickey Mouse in the Spotlight at Hake’s

Easily finding his way into many hearts around the world, Mickey Mouse memorabilia continues to be a premiere collectibles. Geppi’s Entertainment’s Hake’s Americana is currently auctioning a plethora of Mickey Mouse collectibles, offering something for everyone! Bid now, as Hake’s Americana Auction #195 starts closing on September 2–4, 2008. 

Ever pictured Mickey as a drum major? Hake’s is offering four different tin toy examples of Mickey creating beats. The first is the Nifty Mickey Mouse drummer, which includes its original box, a truly rare find! This 1931 tin toy measuring 6.5” tall, is toy #173 by Geo Borgfeldt, and most notably has a red, white, and blue drum. Including a spring plunger mechanism on the back, Mickey’s arms move as well as the drum head to simulate Mickey banging on his drums all day! The second example is of Nifty Mickey Mouse jazz drummer. The only difference between the former and later, is the color variation; the later drum is comprised of green, white, orange and black. Mickey Mouse can also be seen with teeth on a German version of Mickey Mouse drummer tin toy. Lastly is another German version of Mickey Mouse drummer tin toy without teeth, and is the same style as lot #1731. 

Also on the block is a 1930s Mickey Mouse Knickerbocker doll with tag, measuring 15.5” tall to the tips of his ears. Sporting four mother of pearl buttons on his pants, a 1” segment of his original rubber tail, and an original die-cut cardboard string tag, this is an excellent example for this doll. Always wanting his companion by his side, a Minnie Mouse Knickerbocker doll with tag, is also being offered in very good to fine condition.

In the mood to play with Mickey? Lot #1811 is a Mickey Mouse Choo-Choo Fisher Price pull toy which was introduced in 1938. the earliest of the three different choo-choo toys. Still with original pull string and wood knob, you can pull Mickey all day and hear the bell ring, as it is still in working condition. If you prefer wind-ups, try the Mickey Mouse on Bucking Bronc celluloid wind-up. This wind-up, has a 3” tall Mickey figure attached to a 6.5” long horse. On the bottom, Mickey has “WDP” copyright and “Made In Occupied Japan.”

In addition, a Mickey Mouse Silverplate prototype radio measuring 4.25 X 8.75 X 6.5” tall, which was never put into production, is also up for bidding. “Made In U.S.A By Wm. Rogers & Son” and “By Special Permission Walt Disney Enterprises” are located on the bottom of this lot. An item you can also have fun with is a Mickey Mouse Ingersoll deluxe wristwatch created for girls! With two 7/8” charms of Minnie and Donald and box with warranty papers, this 1937 timepiece, is sure to make someone smile.

If you ever imagined being Mickey and Minnie mouse, then look at these Mickey/Minnie Mouse 1930s professionally framed adult costumes. Created by Wornova Manufacturing Co. of New York and originally obtained from Hopper & Howe costume supply house in Haverville, Massachusetts, these costumes have little wear. Both in frames measuring 33 X 45 X 2”, each is accented by a 3” diameter felt patch on their chests. 

Lastly, even though Christmas is months away, it is never too early to get in the spirit! Lot #1672 is a Walt Disney Studio Christmas card from 1931 printed for use by Walt’s Confidential Secretary, Carolyn Kay Shafer. The front reading “Yoo Hoo!” while the inside states “A Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year” with a full color caroling scene featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Horace, and Clarabell. Start getting your Christmas card list ready, as this card is a direct link to Walt Disney!
