On Wednesday, October 21, 2015, fans of geek culture celebrated Back to the Future Day. In Back to the Future Part II, it is that date that Marty – in 1985 – travels 30 years into the future to visit.

Though we are still waiting – and hoping – for hover boards, Nike was able to drop the pop culture bomb of self-lacing sneakers, which were featured as part of life in the 1989 movie’s version of 2015. And who better to test out the first pair, than Marty McFly himself.

The folks at Nike delivered a pair of self-lacing Nikes to Marty McFly actor, Michael J. Fox, on Back to the Future Day. The shoes feature a green button to tighten the laces, a red button to loosen them, and a yellow one to turn on the lights.

A video was posted of Fox testing the shoes on his YouTube channel The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Though he doesn’t say, “That’s heavy,” his enthusiasm is reminiscent of the beloved character from Back to the Future.

Fox also showed off the shoes during his interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Wednesday night. The Nike Mag will be released as limited edition shoes only available by auction with the proceeds going to his foundation.
