Created by Ben Thompson, The Masked Marvel first appeared in Keen
Detective Comics #7 on July of 1939. While the comic book is considered
scarce, one can only imagine how rare this four page retail flyer really is.

The flyer features a three-page story and an advertisement for Keen
Detective Comics #8 the second appearance of The Masked Marvel. The flyer
was distributed from retailers to promote the title and offered 1,000 red masks
to the readers. Each reader was asked to submit a letter explaining what they
liked about The Masked Marvel. The reader also had to include the top half of
the August issue of Keen Detective Comics when submitting the letter to
receive a mask. We wonder how many copies of the comics were destroyed in the
hopes of receiving a promotional red mask.
