March has seen some incredible sales of ultra high grade Silver and Bronze
Age Marvels on PedigreeComics.com, highlighted by the sale for $25,000 of a 9.8
certified copy of X-Men #94, the second appearance of the new X-Men and
the beginning of the popular Claremont/Cockrum and later, John Byrne run of the
title. This is the highest certified copy by CGC and was part of Pedigree Comics
owner Doug Schmell’s private collection. Mr. Schmell purchased the comic in
early January 2004. “The buyer is a high grade X-Men collector and he had
targeted this key issue for quite some time,” explained Mr. Schmell.

“It
was listed on the Vault section of my website for $30,000 and we went back and
forth negotiating on a price. The $25,000 represented the middle ground between
his initial offer and the listed price. It’s a one of a kind item, and although
I hate parting with it, I couldn’t resist the final offer and I really like the
buyer and am happy he was able to add this gem to his collection”. Another large
Bronze Age sale recently was an Incredible Hulk #181 in 9.8 for $18,000.
This comic features the first full appearance of Wolverine and is by far and
away the most popular and in-demand 1970’s Marvel comic book.

Other
sales of note from March include a CGC certified 9.8 copy of Amazing
Spider-Man
#129, the first appearance of the Punisher and the Jackal, for
$9,000, the sale of an Incredible Hulk #2 in 9.4 for $12,000,
Incredible Hulk #4 in 9.4 for $8,000, Incredible Hulk #6 in 9.6
for $16,250, Silver Surfer #1 in 9.6 Boston Copy for $3,850, the
Slobodian copy of Silver Surfer #4 in 9.8 for $7,500, Silver
Surfer
#2 in 9.8 for $4,250, Silver Surfer #3 9.6 for $1,350,
Silver Surfer #7 in 9.6 for $1,700, Silver Surfer #8 in 9.6 for
$1,550, Silver Surfer in 9.6 for $1,600 which was the Cleveland Copy,
Silver Surfer #12 9.6 $1,275, Silver Surfer #15 in 9.6 Pacific
Coast Copy for $1,350 and $1,650 for a 9.6 copy of Silver Surfer #17. Two
copies of Avengers #1 sold in 8.5, one for $3,500 and one for $3,950, and
Avengers #4 in 9.4 sold for $6,200 were among just some of the notable
sales that Pedigree Comics has transacted this month.

According to Doug
Schmell, it is currently a very strong market, especially for ultra high grade
CGC certified 9.4 or better Marvel comics from the 1960s and 1970s. If you wish
to consign or sale any of your comic books, contact Doug Schmell of Pedigree
