Marvel Comics, DC Art Top Heritage Weekly Auctions
The start of John Romita, Sr.’s run on Amazing Spider-Man, a Jim Lee and Scott Williams Justice League two-page splash, and a high grade copy of Space Invaders for Atari 2600 are among the highlights in Heritage’s weekly auctions. The Comic Books Select Auction ends on Sunday through Tuesday, July 2-4, 2023, the Video Games Mini-Boss Auction closes on Tuesday, July 4, and the Comic Art & Animation Auction concludes on Wednesday, July 5.
A pair of Marvel keys lead the comic book auction. Amazing Spider-Man #39 CGC 8.0 is the issue on which John Romita, Sr. started his iconic run as artist on the series. X-Men #131 CGC 9.6 showcases Emma Frost’s first cover appearance and is a tie-in to the “Dark Phoenix Saga.”
DC brings the top lots in the original art auction. The popular pairing of Jim Lee and Scott Williams on the Justice League #6 double-page spread shows Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, the Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg, and Aquaman at the US Capitol. Sheldon Moldoff returned to two characters he helped define for the Batman vs. Joker original art.
The video game auction contains Space Invaders WATA 9.0 A+ sealed (blue box, made in Taiwan, early production) for Atari 2600, which is one of just three copies graded by Wata. Another major video game lot is the famous action puzzler, Tetris WATA 9.0 B+ sealed (oval SOQ TM, mid-production) for NES.
