Mark Ruffalo to Play Hulk in Spider-Man 4
The Hulk is smashing his way into the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s territory. Mark Ruffalo has signed on to reprise Bruce Banner/Hulk opposite Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Ruffalo debuted as Bruce Banner and the Hulk in 2012’s The Avengers. He played him in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Ruffalo also appeared in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and had a cameo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
He isn’t the only MCU star set to appear in the Marvel/Sony Spider-Man sequel. Jon Bernthal will portray Frank Castle/Punisher in the movie, which will be the first time the character has appeared in film since Ray Stevenson played him in 2008’s Punisher: War Zone. Michael Mando, who played Scorpion in Spider-Man: Homecoming, is also set to star in the sequel.

The Marvel and Sony project is the fourth film in the Spider-Man franchise centered around Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It began with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017, then Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, followed by Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The third movie marked a significant change in the franchise, set after Mysterio outed Peter Parker as Spider-Man. At the end of that movie, Peter asks Doctor Strange to wipe him from everyone’s memories to protect his loved ones and regain his anonymity.
It will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon expected to return as MJ and Ned, respectively. Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) has been cast in the movie and is rumored to play Mayday Parker/Spider-Girl or Gwen Stacy.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
