Lumberjanes Animated Series Heads to HBO Max

HBO Max is turning BOOM! Studios’ graphic novel series Lumberjanes into an animated series. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power creator and showrunner Noelle Stevenson is set to adapt and executive produce the show. HBO has given the show a script to screen order and will launch the project with an hour-long special, written by Stevenson.

Lumberjanes follows five friends during their first summer at Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thilstle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. The cabinmates soon learn that their camp director is hiding a secret that is the key to answering an old camp mystery. Throughout the summer the girls face obstacles with the supernatural creatures and cabin rivalries as they learn about the meaning of friendship.

Ross Richie and Stephen Christy will executive produce the series for BOOM! Studios. BOOM!’s Mette Norkjaer will co-executive produce along with Lumberjanes co-creators Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Brooklyn Allen. The project was brought into HBO Max by Billy Wee and Aaron Davidson, both of whom will oversee the project for the streamer. 

Lumberjanes was introduced in 2014 and has since gone on to produce 70 issues and 13 graphic novels. It has won multiple Eisner Awards and the GLAAD award for outstanding comic book.
