Netflix has renewed Locke & Key, the show that adapts the popular IDW comic series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, for season three. This announcement was made not only before season two has begun airing but before production of the sophomore season has even wrapped. Production is set to end soon, then after a very short break they’ll begin working on season three in January 2021.

Netflix has also signed an overall deal with co-showrunner Meredith Averill that covers TV and other projects. Averill developed the show with co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and former co-showrunner Aron Eli Coleite. Outside of Locke & Key, Averill has worked on The Good Wife, Jane the Virgin, and The Haunting of Hill House.

“Carlton and Meredith have built an incredible world in Locke & Key, and we’re excited to have the Lockes return for more in the third season,” Netflix’s VP overall deals, Brian Wright, said. “I’m delighted to expand our creative partnership with Meredith Averill, a talented creator with a keen eye for best in class horror and supernatural storytelling.”
