The concept is deceptively simple. You all know the story of Sleeping
Beauty–how a witch’s curse put her and her entire castle into a 100 year sleep.
You know about the brave prince who rescues her and marries her to live Happily
Ever After. But if that is all you know, you don’t know half the story. Linda
Medley addressed what happened to the other residents of Sleeping Beauty’s
castle after she left. It became a crossroads for all of the fairy tale folk
that you recall and some obscure ones that you probably don’t. But all of that
is just the foundation of her story.

Castle Waiting emerged in the
1990s as one of the best titles fighting for a place in a very tough
marketplace. Through periods of self-publishing and publishing under other
companies, creator Linda Medley captured our imaginations with the story of a
pregnant maiden discovering this incredible place and a larger story was just
about to unfold as we were told we would have to wait.

Now, thanks to the
wise folks at Fantagraphics, Castle Waiting returns. For those
unfamiliar with this story, a hardcover collection is being released this June
collecting the story as it has been told so far. For those of us who have been
waiting, a news series begins in July. Medley is a talent, in style, in
dialogue and in storytelling. Whether a comic book fan, a lover of children’s
stories, a follower of epic adventures or just looking for some pure escapism,
Castle Waiting deserves your support.
