Lee & Portacio Art, Giant-Size X-Men #1 in Heritage Weekly Auctions

Jim Lee and Whilce Portacio Alpha Flight original art, a mid-grade Giant-Size X-Men #1, and a sealed copy of a Beauty & the Beast video game are among the top lots in Heritage’s weekly auctions. The Comic Books Select Auction ends on Sunday and Monday, September 11-12, 2022, the Video Games Mini-Boss Auction closes on Tuesday, September 13, and the Comic Art & Animation Auction ends on Wednesday, September 14.

The original art auction is led by the Jim Lee and Whilce Portacio Alpha Flight #53 story page 22, featuring Wolverine. The ink over graphite is on Bristol board with an image area of 10” x 14-3/4” and is signed by Lee.

Another key art piece open for bidding is Carmine Infantino and Mike Esposito’s Spider-Woman #17 story page 12 showing a woman wearing Spider-Woman’s costume, slipping and falling from a balcony. The ink over graphite on Bristol board has a 10” x 15” image area.

In the comic auction, Heritage is selling the key Giant-Size X-Men #1 CBCS 7.5, introducing the new X-Men: Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Thunderbird. Also featuring the second full appearance of Wolverine, this issue was written by Len Wein with art by Dave Cockrum, and a cover by Cockrum and Gil Kane.

Another Marvel key up for grabs is Fantastic Four #2 CGC 5.5 with the debut of the Skrulls and second appearance of the Fantastic Four. Jack Kirby created the cover and art for the issue, which includes a Thing pin-up.

In the video game auction, Heritage is selling Beauty & the Beast WATA 9.6 A sealed (1982 silver box) Intellivision. The game in which Bashful Buford climbs a building and dodges boulders while trying to rescue Tiny Mabel, is a Donkey Kong style game inspired by the classic fairy tale.

The Merc with the Mouth is also in the video game auction with Deadpool WATA 9.6 A+ sealed (Microsoft security label) Xbox 360. The third person hack and slash action game was released three years before Deadpool made his feature film debut.
