Kevin Smith to Write Spider-Man and Hulk Series
Spider-Man and the Hulk have worked together plenty of times, but they are about to tackle a surprising new challenge: the exorcism of Bruce Banner. The action unfolds in Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire & Brimstone, a five-issue series written by filmmaker and comic writer Kevin Smith (Clerks, Daredevil) and The Tonight Show writer Andy McElfresh. The book features art by R.B. Silva (One World Under Doom) and will begin in August 2026.
“This ultra-accessible and pun-filled five issue limited series begins when Easter Mass in Central Park is interrupted by Mole Man and a horde of Man-themed supervillains,” according to Marvel’s press release. “Not one to let a pun go to waste (or a holiday be ruined) Peter Parker suits up and steps in to save the day… before the Incredible Hulk makes his presence felt as only the Jade Giant can. Together with Matt Murdock, Spidey learns that Bruce Banner is intent on solving his “Hulk” problem once and for all with the help of the church. Namely, through an exorcism of his big green counterpart!”

Smith is a multihyphenate filmmaker who writes, directs, and produces his own projects. They include the introduction of Jay and Silent Bob in Clerks, followed by films like Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and others. He started writing comics in the late 1990s, starring the characters from his movies, then he wrote popular runs in Daredevil and Green Arrow in the early 2000s. Smith has also written stories featuring Spider-Man and Batman characters, Green Hornet, The Bionic Man, and Hit-Girl, among others.
Before the Spider-Man/Hulk collaboration hits store shelves, Smith’s own characters collide with Marvel heroes in Jay and Silent Bob: Jays of Future Past #1. The one-shot will be in stores on June 10.
“I’ve played with Peter Parker and swung with Spider-Man before but this is the first time I’m having Hulk issues!” Smith said. “Andy and I are dropping two of Marvel’s most well-known scientists into a spiritual story of Biblical proportions as we exorcise the Incredible Hulk – and I’m not talking cross-fit!”
Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone #1 will be in stores on August 19.
