at the results of their latest auction. The auction closed late on March 29, and
he was ecstatic that the auction had been so totally embraced by the collecting
community.
As busy as he was with the results, Farrell was kind enough
to give Scoop a few seconds to talk about the results for our readers. He
had this to say about the auction’s success. “Our latest Disney auction was the
most exciting we have ever had. It was the variety of the collection we offered
that blew everyone away. It featured some of the best examples of vintage
Disney offered ever offered in one place. High-grade comic books, toys,
figurines, postcards and movie material filled the full-color catalog.”
Considering the history of Just Kids Nostalgia, that is saying a lot.
Farrell spoke about that history. “We have been offering single subject
collections for five years now. We ran quarterly auctions during the ’80s and
’90s covering all sorts of character collectibles, movie material, premiums and
toys. Our catalogs were always chock-full of items from the 1930s thru the
1970s. When we started to put together single subject auctions the prices went
through the roof. Great collections bring everyone out of the
woodwork.”
Comic collectors are talking about the significant sales on
two separate books. Both of them featured work by the legendary Carl barks. The
first, a CGC-certified 9.0 copy of Dell Four Color #62 realized $6,401.
This book contains the timeless Barks classic “Donald Duck in Frozen Gold.” The
second notable comic sale was also an issue of Dell Four Color. This one, issue
#263, contained Barks’ “Sheriff of Bullet Valley.” It is one of the most
recognizable and iconic of Barks’ covers. Graded 9.2, it realized
$5,439.
The auction covered almost everything that could possibly be
Disney-related. There was everything from prints and animation cels to big
little books. There were stuffed dolls from the earliest days of Disney
collecting to pinbacks, buttons and jewelry. Comic strips were included as well
as comic books. The collection was one of the most well rounded ones that
Farrell had ever seen.
