Johnny Cage Gets His Close Up in Mortal Kombat II Trailer
The battle for Earthrealm is back on, and the heroes of our world are getting an infusion of star power. Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for Mortal Kombat II, heavily featuring the Earth’s famous new team member, Johnny Cage.
The trailer opens on Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) looking dejected by the lack of a line at his convention autograph table. Enter Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) and Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee) with his invitation to join Mortal Kombat. He seems pleased by the opportunity – that is until Kitana (Adeline Rudolph) shows him the deadly level of competition he is about to face.

Once the tournament begins, Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) is shocked by the reappearance of Kung Lao (Max Huang). We see Jade (Tati Gabrielle) wielding her staff, Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada) taking on multiple foes, Liu showing off the new level of his power, and Sonya gets her rematch with Kano (Josh Lawson).
Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) makes his claim on our world and the Earth’s champions encourage Johnny to help them in the fight. The trailer ends with Johnny donning his signature sunglasses before taking on Baraka (C.J. Bloomfield) in combat.

Mortal Kombat II is the follow up to the 2021 martial arts/fantasy film based on the Mortal Kombat video game series. The first film introduced new character Cole Young who joins video game series heroes like Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Jax to fight the Outworld forces led by Shang Tsung.
The sequel is directed by Simon McQuoid, who helmed the first film, and written by Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy). The cast also includes Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and Joe Taslim as Noob Saibot.
Mortal Kombat II is set for theatrical release on May 8, 2026.
