The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Arts is relocating to a new home at the County College of Morris (CCM) in Randolph, New Jersey. The Kubert School is moving in the fall of 2026, expanding classes for students seeking careers in comics, illustration, and graphic storytelling. Students at the County College of Morris will now have more access to comics industry professionals through connections of the Kubert School.

“We are honored to welcome The Joe Kubert School into our community and to continue its extraordinary legacy of inspiring generations of artists and creators,” CCM President Dr. Anthony Iacono said. “By coming together, we are expanding opportunities for students to develop the artistic, technical and professional skills needed to thrive in today’s creative industries. This addition strengthens career pathways in animation, illustration, graphic storytelling and related fields while preserving the spirit and excellence that have made The Joe Kubert School so highly respected.”

Comics luminary Joe Kubert and his wife Muriel opened the Joe Kubert School of Cartooning and Graphic Art in September 1976. They developed a three-year program focused on cartoon illustration, graphic arts, and cinematic animation. Later, the Kuberts’ sons Adam and Andy became instructors at the school. In 2019, former student, illustrator, editor, and comic shop owner Anthony Marques became the president of the school.

The Kubert School has many famous alumni like Stephen R. Bissette, Rick Veitch, Jan Durrsema, Dan Parent, Amanda Conner, Lee Weeks, Tom Mandrake, Timothy Truman, Ed Piskor, Steve Lieber, Keith Champagne, Cliff Rathburn, Scott Kolins, and Matt Hollingsworth.

It was originally located in Dover, New Jersey, then moved to Madison in 2025. It is now relocating to CCM after operating as a solo institution for the last 50 years.

By combining our specialized art education with CCM’s many resources, we can create even more opportunities for our students to succeed. It’s an exciting new chapter in the Joe Kubert School’s history and we can’t wait to see what our students accomplish.”
