Jason Rusch, the 21st Century Firestorm
Jason Rusch became Firestorm in the third volume of the comic book series, after original Firestorm Ronnie Raymond died in Identity Crisis. He debuted in Firestorm #1 (July 2004) with the same powers of the original, including matter manipulation, energy projection, flight, super-strength, and intangibility. He also has an eidetic memory and x-ray, thermal, and microscopic vision.
Dan Jolley and ChrisCross created Jason, introducing him as a 17-year-old kid living with an abusive father after his mother left him. Jason was working as a courier when he bonded with the Firestorm matrix when it sought a new host after Ronnie died.

He differed from Ronnie, however, because he wasn’t bonded with another person, instead bonding with a variety of people. One of those individuals was Cyborg, who bonded with Firestorm due to the Zeta Beam malfunction in the 52 maxiseries.
Following their separation, Firestorm helped to form a new Justice League with Ambush Bug, Firehawk, Bulleteer, and Super-Chief. But when the team failed to stop a threat that was staged by Skeets, Booster Gold’s robot, the League broke up.
During One Year Later, Jason and Gehenna tried to find Martin Stein when he was kidnapped by a former student. After they saved him, Jason and Stein learned that the Firestorm matrix houses part of the Life Equation. Then in Infinite Crisis, Jason and Stein decided to bond as a permanent host team for the Firestorm matrix.

Ronnie was resurrected as a Black Lantern in Blackest Night and he attacked Jason. Then during the final fight with Nekron, he returned to being a regular human. In the follow-up, Brightest Day, Deathstorm destabilized the Firestorm matrix by manipulating Jason and Ronnie. Firestorm was transported to the antimatter universe, then Deathstorm killed Martin Stein, prompting Jason and Ronnie to join forces.
When DC rebooted their line in The New 52, Jason and Ronnie were classmates who got Stein’s “God Particle” that imbued both with the power to become Firestorm. The duo were part of the Trinity War with the Justice League, Justice League of America, and Justice League Dark. Amanda Waller tasked them with using their matter manipulation power to create loads of Kryptonite to neutralize Superman.
