James Tynion IV to Pen Invisible Man Comic Series
Skybound and Image are expanding their Universal Monsters lineup with a crafty villain who can’t be seen. The publishers, in partnership with Universal Products & Experiences, have announced the Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man limited series by James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children) with illustrations by DANI (The Low, Low Woods). The four-issue comic debuts in August 2025.
The comic introduces Jack Griffin, a man who has always felt invisible to the people around him. When an experimental breakthrough makes it possible to become invisible, Jack is determined to see it through and he won’t let anyone, even the woman he loves, stop him. The comic will feature nods to the classic 1933 Universal film that starred Claude Rains as Griffin.
“Going back to the first conversation I had with Skybound about the Universal Monsters line, there were two characters I knew I wanted to work on from the start. We started with Dracula, but in my heart my favorite Universal Monster film has always been the Invisible Man,” Tynion said. “It’s a thrill to peel back the bandages and approach Griffin’s story from a whole new angle, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be on this ride with DANI.”
“Working on The Invisible Man comic book series with such a great creative team is a dream come true,” DANI said. “I can’t wait to show the world the unshowable!”
Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man #1 features covers by DANI and Brad Simpson, Joshua Middleton, David Aja, Rosemary Valero-O’Connell, Alex Ross, and Christian Ward. There are various incentive covers, a pulp variant, pencil sketch, foil, and blank sketch covers.
“James Tynion IV is one of the best horror writers this industry has ever seen, and the Invisible Man is the character DANI was born to draw,” Skybound Editorial Director Alex Antone said. “These two powerhouses have created something truly special with this book… and just like the Invisible Man, comic fans won’t see it coming!”
This is the fifth Universal Monsters comic series from Skybound and Universal. It started with Dracula by Tynion and Martin Simmonds, Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! by Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts, Frankenstein by Michael Walsh, and The Mummy by Faith Erin Hicks. The Invisible Man will be followed by limited series that pair big names in comics with iconic monsters.
