Superman was one of the biggest hit movies of the summer and the Man of Steel is already planning his return. James Gunn, the film’s director and co-CEO of DC Studios, announced that the sequel will fly into theaters on July 9, 2027. He also revealed that the movie will be titled, Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

Gunn, who is returning to write and direct the sequel, shared the news on social media. It was accompanied by Jim Lee’s art of Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his Warsuit. In comics, Lex made the high-tech suit to compete with Superman’s powers so that he could battle the hero on more equal footing. The art suggests that David Corenswet’s Superman will once again face off against Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Superman is set a few years after the Man of Steel (Corenswet) became a superhero in Metropolis, is working as Clark Kent at the Daily Planet, and is dating Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). After making a controversial choice to interfere in an international incident, Superman is the subject of worldwide scrutiny. It forces him to reconcile living the regular human life of Clark with his alien heritage as a Kryptonian and how his efforts impact the world. Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), who hates Superman with a passion, makes it his mission to destroy Superman and his reputation.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow will follow Supergirl, which is out on June 26, 2026, and Clayface, which is scheduled for September 11, 2026.
