The magic of Yorubaland’s past and the dangers it faces are previewed in the final trailer for Iyanu: The Age of Wonders. Based on the comic created by Roye Okupe, the movie is a prequel to the TV show that adapted Iyanu’s story.

“Set 500 years before the rise of Iyanu, The Age of Wonders transports viewers to Yorubaland at the height of its magical civilization. When Meje – the embodiment of the seven deadly sins – emerges, young warriors Dara and Ishe must stop the coming Age of Darkness. Their only hope lies with the Divine Ones, legendary beings who once walked the earth and upheld the balance between light and shadow,” per the official synopsis.

The Iyanu comic, TV show that followed, and this film are based in Nigerian mythology, history, and culture. The story is set in the magical kingdom of Yorubaland where teenage orphan, Iyanu, is studying Yoruba history and ancient arts when she unintentionally triggers her own divine power. With her new powers, Iyanu joins fellow teens Biyi and Toye on a journey to uncover the evil hiding in her homeland. During their quest, Iyanu learns important truths about her past, present, and her destiny.

The movie is directed by and co-written by Okupe. It features the voice cast of Shaffy Bello as Emi, Adesua Etomi-Wellington as Olori, Serah Johnson as Iyanu, Okey Jude as Biyi, Samuel Kugbiyi as Toye, Ike Ononye as Ishe, Babajide Oyekunle as Joba, and Sisan Victor-Woko as Dara.

Iyanu: The Age of Wonders will premiere on Cartoon Network on August 30, 2025, followed by HBO Max on August 31.
