Is The Force Strong In You?
Last week, LucasArts announced plans to release a new Star Wars game early next year. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be available for Wii, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, Nintendo’s handheld DS machine, and Sony’s PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable.
What has gamers buzzing most with jittery excitement is that with Wii’s motion sensitive “Wiimote,” using the Jedi lightsaber is as real as it gets. Players will act out the lightsaber maneuvers they want to use, giving Star Wars fans an opportunity they’ve always dreamed of. Not to mention, the loud speaker on the "Wiimote" will mirror the motion with that infamous Star Wars weapon melody that thousands of fans have mimicked through vibrating teeth for almost thirty years.
The Wii version is unique in how realistic the game will be. Because of its easy-to-use style and realistic involvement, Wii has gained immense popularity since its introduction, having hit the one million sales mark faster than PlayStation 2. Its design was crafted in the attempt to sway non-gamers into a love for videogames and is currently outselling PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 by a margin of 2 to 1. With this newest addition to its arsenal, that margin will likely grow.
In The Force Unleashed, players will become Darth Vader’s ‘Secret Apprentices’. The game plans to introduce new, exciting pieces of information about Star Wars, created with the help of George Lucas. The game takes place in the elusive period between Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. Players will help the epitome of a black-hat villain in his plans to exterminate the Jedi. During the course of the game, players can upgrade the “Secret Apprentice’s” powers, pushing them to the limit of Force abilities. New adversaries will join the regular lineup from the Star Wars films and player decisions will change the course of events leading to various possible endings.
Wielding the Wii lightsaber will definitely be a blast for any gamer and/or Star Wars fan.Check out the LucasArts website for more great information on the new game.
