Doctor Stephen Strange was a brilliant, arrogant medical physican who could do amazing things in his profession. Everything was going great for Strange until he had a terrible car accident that caused extensive damage to his hands. Rather than admit defeat, he sought the Ancient One, hoping that the Sorcerer Supreme would heal him. But while learning mystic arts, Strange’s perspective went through a dramatic shift. He started devoting himself to protecting the world from threats like Nightmare and Dormammu, eventually becoming the Sorceror Supreme.

Doctor Strange was created by Steve Ditko, who introduced the character in Strange Tales #110 (July 1963). The comic carried a cover price of 12¢, then seven years later when Robert M. Overstreet published The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #1 in 1970, a Near Mint copy was valued at $3. Ten years later in the Guide #10, it was 15-times that amount at $45.

In 1990, Doctor Strange’s debut was up to $200, and it grew to $500 for the Guide #30 in 2000. After another 10 years, the book’s value had risen to $3,500 in the Guide #40. The book saw major growth through the 2010s, being valued at $20,000 for the milestone Guide #50 in 2020. After just four years, a Near Mint copy of Strange Tales #110 conjured $31,000 in 2024’s the Guide #54.
