One of the rarest video games on the planet has hit the auction block on eBay, and a steady stream of bids has already started flowing as the buzz around this auction increases. Stadium Events is the game in question here, and with it being still factory sealed after all these years, it may be one of the best condition copies available.

Stadium Events was released in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment Console by Bandai, but it was almost immediately pulled from shelves after Nintendo purchased the rights for the “Family Fun Fitness” mat technology from Bandai. Nintendo wanted to rebrand the technology, so production of Stadium Events, which was compatible with the mat, was halted after about just 2,000 copies were made. Only 200 of these games were estimated to have ever made it to the shelves, and the retro game collecting community estimates that just 20 of those cartridges are still in existence today.

Of the copies of Stadium Events known to exist, only two are known to be factory sealed, making the copy currently on eBay that much more desirable. The game was sent to the Video Game Authority in Roswell, GA, for authentication and grading, and it came back as “excellent+/near mint.” It was also encased to help protect against UV rays.

Stadium Events is easily considered the “holy grail” for video game collectors – given that they’re so rare – and a bidding war has already begun over this cartridge. As of publication, the current bid is already in the tens of thousands of dollars after a starting bid of $5,000.
