In Memoriam: Veronica Carlson

Actress and model Veronica Carlson, known for her work in Hammer films and other horror movies, died on Sunday, February 27, 2022. She was 77 years old.

A native of Yorkshire, England, she attended the High Wycombe College of Art and Technology where she studied art and performed in theatrical productions. She did some modeling and had small parts in Casino Royale, The Magnificent Two, and Hammerhead in the late ‘60s.

After seeing her modeling work, the head of Hammer Films James Carreras cast her in Dracula Has Risen from the Grave with Christopher Lee. Carlson followed that with other Hammer horror films, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed and The Horror of Frankenstein.

Her work in horror also included Old Dracula, The Ghoul, Black Easter, Freakshow, and House of the Gorgon.

Outside of horror, Carlson was in an episode of The Saint, she was in Crossplot, Pussycat, Pussycat, I Love You, and she starred in the short-lived early ‘70s thriller series Spyder’s Web. She was working on The Rectory at the time of her passing.
