In Memoriam: Tom Lester
Green Acres actor Tom Lester died on Monday, April 20, 2020 in Nashville, TN from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was 81 years old and the last surviving actor from the original Green Acres cast.
Born on September 23, 1938 in Jackson, MS, Lester earned a degree in chemistry at the University of Mississippi and taught in Oklahoma prior to moving to Hollywood.
After nabbing the role of Eb Dawson in Green Acres, Lester went on to appear in 150 episodes from 1965 until the show ended in 1971. During his time on that show, he also guest starred as Eb Dawson on multiple episodes of Petticoat Junction and The Beverly Hillbillies. He returned to the character in 1990 for the TV movie, Return to Green Acres.
From there, he was in episodes of Love, American Style, Little House on the Prairie, Knight Rider, and Santa Barbara. He was also in movies like Benji, Intruder, Gordy, and his final role was in Campin’ Buddies in 2014.
